Album Review

Chicago-based singer/songwriter Andrew Belle followed up his 2010 debut The Ladder three years later with Black Bear. Belle's music up to this point had been anchored more in the rootsy traditions of slightly alternative CCM singer/songwriter types, but Black Bear tends more toward indie sounds, with Belle citing acts like M83 and Beach House as influential on the project. The album's ten tracks are linked in a loosely conceptual way, with some references that call back to songs from The Ladder and continue a narrative about Belle's interpersonal relationships and faith., Rovi

Changing Sound

I fell in love with Andrew Belle's first album. His voice is phenomenal and I adored the catchy rythms and tunes. This album, however I feel does not capture his true talent. I still really enjoy the songs, but I wish he would have taken it in a different route. I, personally am not a fan of the electronic aspect of it. I am a fan of hearing real instruments in songs and I feel like you can not in this album. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a hardcore Belle fan!!

Its a 11/10 for me

I am absolutely IN LOVE with this album! The leaning towards techno-beats is a bit of an acquired taste, but if you're an electronica freak like myself then it's a welcome listen. It's been 3 years since I've happened upon Andrew, and I think it's safe to say that I'm very happy I did.

I love Andrew !

Heard most of his songs on this new album live in Columbus . Love them ! I also met him and he was a very nice person. I'm definitely pre ordering his new album !

Chicago-based singer/songwriter Andrew Belle worked tirelessly leading up to the 2010 release of his debut album The Ladder, doing performances and songwriting work in his field to the point that he was recognized with a John Lennon Songwriting award in 2009, a year before he even had an album out. While The Ladder leaned on the influence of indie folk contemporaries like Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes, its 2013 follow-up, Black Bear, went in a more dreamy and electronic direction, with Belle citing M83...
