I'm in my early 20s and only came around to watching Black Orpheus this summer. It is a powerful experience. I ended up buying the DVD but was stunned to discover there was no soundtrack... until now! The beauty of the lyrics (look them up!) is only matched by the beauty of Brazilian Portuguese in which they are sung.
Wish I could also download the actual film!!! Hint hint, itunes!!!
This is by far, beyond a shadow of a doubt, my all-time favorite movie! I also love initiating others to the Black Orpheus experience...and they are always so appreciative. There is a magic to this film...a magic that one can feel but never actually fully comprehend. Undoubtedly, the magic is empowered by the lush music that we thankfully have access to. I agree with the other reviewer...if you don't look up the lyrics and translate them, you are missing out on some of the magic. I do this with all Brazilian music (dictionary.com has a good translator). Literal translations usually don't do the actual lyrical meaning justice, but at least you will have an idea of what it's about, and you can use the poetry of your imagination to delve deeper. You might even become inspired to learn portuguese...as I did! I don't know if the film will ever be available here on itunes, but if it is, it will be first in line. Tchau...
Yes! Finally! I grew up with Black Orpheus and loved and I reconnected with it a while back, so when I heard the music I had to find the soundtrack. Black Orpheus is the reason I started to play the guitar.
