Britney Spears at her best / Blackout

Britney Spears at her best / Blackout Britney Spears is back -- finally. We all know Britney is not the strongest vocalist when compared to Christina Aguilera or Mariah Carey, but strong vocals is not what “Blackout” is about. “Blackout” is fresh, modern, and edgy. Synthesized vocals and phenomenal beats support the album’s base. Every track on this album is hypnotically produced to create a sound that listeners and critics would expect to hear in 2020; it’s incredible. The songs on this album are all phenomenal. The album starts out with the chart-topping “Gimme More,” which is just a tease compared to the rest of the album. The second song, and reportedly the second single, is “Piece of Me,” a rock/dance/pop hit where Spears addresses her critics. She sings, “I'm Mrs. Bad Media Karma, another day another drama ... I'm Mrs. Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, I'm Mrs. 'Oh My God That Britney's Shameless.”’ The album continues with pop/dance songs that are less than forgettable. They are just the opposite with beats that stick in listeners’ heads for hours and hours. “Toy Soldier” is an energetic and tantalizing song produced by Danja, who worked with Justin Timberlake on his latest album. Britney refuses to hold back on this album especially during the mesmerizing, “Get Naked (I Got a Plan).” She teases the listener asking, “What I gotta do to make you move my body?” and finishes it off with, “take it off, take it off, take it off.” Britney closes the album with the one and only ballad in the entire album. Britney’s last and most personal song is “Why Should I Be Sad?” where she confronts her recent heartbreak, but refuses to let it take over her life. Britney shows that even with all the stress and struggles of life, she is not going to let any of it bother her. She plans to move on. A perfect ending for an unbelievable album. It is not just the hardcore “Britney enthusiasts” that rave about this album. The Associated Press calls it, “… not only a very good album, it's her best work ever - a triumph, with not a bad song to be found on the 12 tracks.” The New York Times refers to the album as “incredible!” Entertainment Weekly gives it a “B+” The highest rating Britney has ever received from EW, and better than Justin Timberlake’s “FutureSex/LovSounds.” Some reviews have been harsh, saying Britney “is not ready to release an album.” But forget about Britney’s past mishaps and troubles, and listen to the album for what it is. If you have to -- forget it is Britney Spears completely, you will see that this album is extraordinary. It will have you dancing and singing along within the first listen. ** DO NOT MISS: Piece of Me, Break the Ice, Get Naked(I Got A Plan), Freakshow, Toy Soldier, and Perfect Lover. Also don’t miss “State of Grace.” (Search for it on YouTube) The song did not make it on the album, but it showcases Britney’s real vocal talent.

Britney has a ‘Freakshow’ on Blackout

…and my is it sexy. The new Blackout album may not contain songs that live up to Toxic’s par, but as an album, it’s a synthesizing, club-friendly, dance-pop album her fans want to hear. While an occasional slipup comes up here and there, there’s no denying this album is what gets people moving. 1. Gimme More – The track gets stuck in your head after the first spin. While the chorus gets repetitive and the track seems to stretch a little long (Danja speaking for nearly a minute?), it may just be the Stripper Anthem of 2007. - 4.5/10 2. Piece of Me – There was a lot of rumors about this song a few months before it’s leak, and was staged as the revealing song from Ms. Spears, but it doesn’t live up to it’s calibur. While the Bloodshy & Avant track has a different electro beat and her vocals seem similar to Kylie’s ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’, the track is no more than a hot dance track…which is saying a lot. – 4.5/5 3. Radar – It’s generic electro pop & a surefire radio hit. – 5/5 4. Break The Ice – Slated to be the 2nd single, the dance track is complete with a hot and upbeat rhythm and a nice dance break. – 4.5/5 5. Heaven On Earth – The breathy track is hot and sweet mixed in one, but the chorus seems a bit underproduced…still a good dance track, but more of a flirty kind. – 4/5 6. Get Naked (I Got A Plan) – A horrible mess. Take her vocals out, and it’s the same track. Danja’s voice is annoying and Britney does not pull off sexy here. There is nearly nothing original here. – 2/5 7. Freakshow – The standout. It’s filled with electronic sounds and Britney’s vocals are “robotized”, which makes it all the more hotter. With it’s short 2:55 minute length (radio-friendly) and it’s to-the-point lyrics, the song is destined to be a smash hit in clubs. – 5/5 8. Toy Soldier – The song is definitely something different, but it misses that “hit” appeal…like as if the rhythm is so different it loses the catchy appeal. But like any Britney song, the chorus is an instant success. – 4/5 9. Hot As Ice – Very fun. Does not require you to think. Just fun, mindless dance pop. Sometimes, that’s the best. – 5/5 10. Ooh Ooh Baby – It’s cool that it samples “Happy Together” by The Turtles, and it’s very catchy. No more. Just a fun dance track. Once again, very flirty. – 4/5 11. Perfect Lover – It’s upbeat, it’s sexual, and it’s another stripper song. Very fun with the breathy vocals. – 4/5 12. Why Should I Be Sad – As being the slowest song on the album, it could just as much be classified as a midtempo track. Yes, she discusses Kevin Federline, but it may not be what fans want…which is just fun, urban dance pop…which this song is not. Nonetheless, it’s very calming. 4/5
