iTunes Review

With its third studio album, the Denver duo Breathe Carolina strips down its electro-rock, eschewing the peripheral bells and whistles of past works to focus on even stronger songwriting. “Wooly” kicks open the door with a confident collision of techno-laced pop and heavily distorted screamo. Hell Is What You Make It is cleverly built on a balance of contrasts. Throughout, David Schmitt’s flirty boy-next-door vocals battle Kyle Even’s feral howls and screams. The catchy “Edge of Heaven” is glossed over with confectionary pop stickiness; Schmitt sings like a matured Justin Bieber while Even lets loose his larynx demons to sound like the song’s protagonist is battling a split personality. While Schmitt sings that he’s “hanging from the edge of heaven,” it sounds like his shadow is trying to pull him to the depths of hell. “Chemicals” rubs clean dance floor beats and Auto-Tuned vocals against gargantuan distorted bass and dusty drum and bass patterns. The standout jam “Blackout” deviates from the formula to deliver a colossal dance floor anthem of Lady GaGa proportions.

It's Classy Not Classic > Hell Is What You Make It > Hello Fascination

Breathe Carolina's third album; Hell Is What You Make, It is a return to their original electronic sound. While it's not a complete rebirth, they still got back some of what they lost in their sophomore slump Hello Fascination. Now I didn't dislike Hello Fascination, it just wasn't the BC I fell in love with back in 08. Wooly is definitely my favorite track as it combines David's singing, Kyle's screaming, electronic beats and metal breakdowns perfectly in classic BC fashion. The one and only complaint I have with this album is the lack of Kyle's screaming, if he screamed in Blackout, Last Night, Waiting, and Chemicals this album would be pure gold and would probably be my favorite above It's Classy Not Classic.

i love breathe carolina....

.....but this just isnt breathe carolina anymore:[ i remember listening to their first cd and loving every single song on it. and they were my favorite band. then hello facination came out and of course i bought it thiinking it was gonna be just as amazing. and well, it wasnt bad but it wasnt even close to being as good as their first. and now this cd is awfull. like blackout and wooly but they still arent nearly as good as their first songs. it's classy not classic was just untouchable and if breathe carolina wants to keep their original fans theyd go back to that sound.....

im just sad that another band i love has sacrificed their music just to be mainstream.....i love breathe carolina and it's classy not classic will always be my favorite album ever(:

A Rebirth

I have been listening to this band when they just released their first cd. This album is a tremendous leap forward while bringing back a feel of their first album. They have advanced much technically, but this disc does not loose focus as much as their second album, it is clean without filler. There is much more than just blackout, you will not be disappointed.
