Album Review

Chris Rock's gritty voice, high-pitched delivery, and undaunted tackling of controversial topics — namely race and gender — have resulted in some of the best-selling comedy records of the '90s and 2000s, including three straight Grammy-winning albums. Released in 2007, Cheese and Crackers collects the best parts of Rock's catalog into a 19-track package that comes across as surprisingly cohesive, particularly for a bit-based comedy album. The topics are grouped together (racial jokes in one corner; semi-sexist jabs in another), and the different audiences sound similar in their willingness to laugh and/or hoot their agreement with Rock's rants. Only a dedicated disciple of the funnyman's work will be able to note that "Women Lie" and "Lending Money" come from two different shows, since they're sandwiched together on Cheese and Crackers in a way that keeps the album from sounding fractured. This greatest-hits comp doesn't break any new ground and won't be nabbing its creator any additional Grammys, but it's nevertheless an accurate roundup of Rock's amusing, R-rated highlights.

Crazily Hilarious!

Chris Rock is a pure comedian Genius! I love his stand up, and he is just sooo funny. This album is great, and all of his hits are on there. I have never laughed so hard!

'cuz you never know

You can't go wrong with any Chris Rock comedy album. This 'best of' highlights some of the more memorable and popular routines. And, unlike many best of's, this one is well put together. It feels like one night with Chris Rock. We need more comics like Chris. Someone who isn't afraid to address issues and situation that we all, no matter what color, creed or race, deal with.

would the REAL Chris Rock Fans Please Speak Up?!?

Please Speak Up! Please Speak Up! I have COX cable. I saw the Chris Rock Special on a channel that is supposedly a network that shows comedy only. They "Bleeped" out a lot of stuff. I Pay for cable. If its legal for the cable company to destroy and artist work by bleeping it out then I guess we all should just bleep and never use what GOD gave us, language. That way anyone thinking they might be offended can fill in the bleeps and put that in their corn cob pipe and smoke it. As a matter of fact, we all should get cable for free if we pay for it and have to watch info-mercials and advertising. Aren’t the advertisers paying cable for us to watch it? That’s illegal isn’t it? That’s double blind billing, where you get billed but they tell you aren’t, so you think your not and pay them. Cable TV should be free. If I have to listen to beeps then I want to get paid by the cable on a "Per Beep" Basis! I guess I asking Chris Rock to be the national spokesman for cable customers world wide. I would be willing to volunteer for the position. Cable TV should be free, or pay us for watching it. I must believe that there is a Chris Rock fan somewhere with the power to help us all. I have sent numerous complaints to cable companies about paying them and having to watch commercials, and info-mercials. I know someone can start a cable TV company that has advertising and is free that way the advertisers would pay "BIG BUCKS" to get there commercial on TV and seen by millions. Let’s take the dot com revolution to a new level.

Genre: Comedy

Chris Rock is a standup comedian who first rose to national stardom when he appeared on Saturday Night Live in the late '80s and early '90s. The early '90s were Rock's popular heyday, when he frequently appeared in films; he released his first comedy record, Born Suspect, in 1991. When he left SNL, his popularity dipped, and for much of the mid-'90s, he had difficulty landing movie roles; when he did, no one went to the movies. Rock began concentrating on his standup work again, and by the release...
