Dara Maclean’s arresting blend of R&B fire and pop savvy gains further refinement on her sophomore album, Wanted. The Texas-born singer/songwriter matches a natural feel for ear-catching hooks with a fervent Christian faith that emphasizes second chances and God’s all-inclusive love. As a vocalist, she combines undeniably powerful pipes with crisp phrasing and an aching emotional edge. Cowriting with such Christian music mainstays as Jason Ingram, Cindy Morgan, and Dave Barnes, Maclean veers from sleek urban grooves (the title track) to full-throated gospel anthems (“Set My People Free”) and warm acoustic shuffles (“Good Enough”) without losing her way musically. The playful, island-accented “Step into the Light” and the surprisingly funky “Nobody but You” find balance in such piano-centered worship ballads as “Made” and “Find Rest.” Especially lovely is the bonus track “Only Grace,” a praise tune of disarming simplicity and unaffected sweetness.
