Cold Spring Fault Less Youth by Mount Kimbie on Apple Music

EDITORS’ NOTES

Mount Kimbie released a series of EPs that made them among the most name-checked outfits in the Warp Records' roster, and they earned critical praise for their 2010 full-length, Crooks & Lovers. The return of the British production duo is filled with intricate, cerebral grooves, hazy digital textures, and cut-and-spliced samples that constantly muddle the boundaries between IDM, dubstep, garage, and hip-hop. It’s exciting stuff on its own, but the guest vocal of up-and-coming singer/songwriter/rapper Archy Marshall—a.k.a King Krule—makes riviting highlights out of “You Took Your Time” and “Meter, Pale, Tone." By the time the looping sample of "Fall Out” fades, Cold Spring Fault Less Youth offers a head-spinning tour of genre-defying musical frontiers.

About Mount Kimbie

With familiar beats underneath otherworldly productions, Mount Kimbie are arguably responsible for the birth of the term "post-dubstep." Dominic Maker and Kai Campos formed Mount Kimbie while both were attending Southbank University in London. In early 2009 they released their debut EP, Maybes, via the Hotflush Recordings label. Later in the year a second EP, Sketch on Glass, appeared and was followed by remixes for the likes of the Big Pink, Foals, and the xx. Hotflush released their full-length debut, Crooks & Lovers, in 2010. Three years later, they returned with Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, an album that featured more vocals including two tracks with rapper King Krule. In 2017, they delivered their third studio album, Love What Survives, which included guest appearances from James Blake, King Krule, and Michachu. ~ David Jeffries
