Album Review

Language of the Soul is a wonderful change of pace for guitarist Ronnie Earl. The record is the first all-instrumental album Earl has recorded and, if anything, it's even more successful than his full-fledged, band-oriented records. Working without vocals has given him the freedom to try all sorts of new things, whether it's the jazzy interludes of "Indigo Burrell" or the gospel-flavored "I Am With You." Earl's compositions aren't memorable in and of themselves (he wrote all but two of the cuts), yet they give him the opportunity to play freely. He comes up with some truly remarkable solo passages, offering definitive proof that he's one of the best contemporary blues guitarists of the '90s.

Phenomenal Blues

Ronnie Earl puts his soul into this album and it shows through. Check out, I Am WIth You. He takes you to the heights and lets you down smoothly. He always has great musicians playing with him. If you like this album check out the Live sessions he did with Jimmy Rodgers too. Live in Europe is insanely beautiful, soulful and raw blues power at its' best.

Genuine blues gift

My wife and I saw Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters at One Longfellow Square Portland ME tonight. They played nonstop for 2 hours 45 minutes. He walked the isles, sat among the audience and played a wide range of original and cover. His attention to basic fundamental blues is as good as you'll hear. He is confident enough to play achingly slow, but deliberate; sometimes loud; often so quiet the audience is completely hushed.

One of the finest blues guitarists to emerge during the '80s, Ronnie Earl often straddled the line between blues and jazz, throwing in touches of soul and rock as well. His versatility made him one of the few blues guitarists capable of leading an almost entirely instrumental outfit, and his backing band the Broadcasters became one of the more respected working units in contemporary blues over the course of the '90s, following Earl's departure from Roomful of Blues. Ronnie Earl was born Ronald Horvath...
