iTunes Review

After the blockbuster success of Let's Dance, Bowie was still in a mood to strut his stuff. The exuberant "Blue Jean" proved he could still set dance floors on fire, and its hints of "Louie Louie" are probably no accident. But there are more ballads this time, as Bowie flexes his voice on Brian Wilson's classic "God Only Knows" and gets soulful on “I Keep Forgettin’.” The title song features two things you don't normally hear on a Bowie album: reggae rhythms and Tina Turner.

Runnin on empty

After the great Nile Rodgers produced cash in that was Let's Dance, the fact that the auteur himself was plumb bereft of fresh ideas dropped this stiff. The best material is either covered or co-created vintage Iggy Pop, so that should be the main cue. The title track was mesmerizing on Iggy's "Lust for Life" and "God Only kNOWS"- which to be fair Bowie turns in a more than creditable rendition of here- is of course a Beach Boys Pet SOUnds classic. 'Blue Jean" was the hit and feels like a 'L's D" outtake (long-form, post-Thriller video notwithstanding). All in all it is here that Bowie loses his Edge- he's no longer leading the trends from this point on- he's a follower. Which may not be the worst thing in the world. He's still Bowie- got the voice and the looks to prove it. But Ziggy Alladin, et al are dead now. He's just another crooner, a cut above Bryan Ferry, but only just. Still and all, if you have everything up through his Eno trilogy, this would be a good contender for the next thing to get.

Wow so underrated

Im a pretty big bowie fan, and this is said to be his worst album but its really good. But its probably better if you relax and listen. Probably shouldn't listen if jogging or driving; just at home.

Love this album!!

This album seems to get some negative reviews for reasons I can not fathom. Tonight is amazing from top to bottom and there isn't one song I would skip over. One of my personal favorites from the legend that is Bowie.
