More Margot Bingham

This is great, and I love how they brought in St. Vincent... But where are all the other Margot Bingham songs?? Her versions of St. Louis Blues & Farewell Daddy are amazing...

Interesting But Uneven

Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks sound great, as always, but some of these singers have a better feel for the material than others. (Leon Redbone, Neko Case, and Pokey LaFarge all acquit themselves very well; Patti Smith, not so much.) Rather than buying the whole thing, it probably makes more sense to use the "preview all" option and then just buy the songs you like.

When I first wrote this review, I lamented the omission of Margot Bingham's stunning rendition of "Farewell Daddy Blues" (the last song in the last episode of season 4, and one of the musical highlights of the whole series). I'm delighted that it has now been included in volume 3, and I'd strongly encourage anyone reading this to check it out.

Good and Bad

The best tracks are the real blues artists (Leon Redbone, Pokey Lafarge). I like Neko Case and St Vincent but I am astounded and disappointed that they didn't include Margot Bingham doing St Louis Blues and Farewell Blues. I don't think I have heard better versions of either of those.
