Sun Bronzed Greek Gods (Bonus Track Version)

Dom
Sun Bronzed Greek Gods (Bonus Track Version)

If you’re looking for an antidote to all that soul-searching dark pop you’ve been listening to lately, you’ve come to the right place. Dom and his self-titled band of young believers make gleeful, fist-pumping, pop music that’s irresistible from the start: the soft sweetness and hooky guitar of “Jesus” pulls the listener in, paving the way for the glorious “Living In America.” Keyboards are both shiny and bright, and fuzzed out and murky, with a carpe diem chorus: “It’s so sexy/living in America!” The song is a hoot, as is the track’s video, a cheeky pastiche of patriotic fervor (flags! fireworks! bald eagles!) and kitschy snapshots of the Good Life (babes in bikinis! motorbikes! football!). The excessive exuberance gives way to jangly, guitar-and-tambourine effervescence (“Rude As Jude,” “Hunny”), ‘80s-kissed synth glitter (“Burn Bridges”) and dance-floor stomping (“Bochica”). Dom blends the winsome, lo-fi bedroom vibe of Atlas Sound with the swirling, sunny psych-pop of MGMT, and a more perfect summer soundtrack would be hard to find.
