Reseña de álbum

When you think of R&B's great falsettos, Eddie Kendricks is a name that comes up along with Philip Bailey, Curtis Mayfield, Blue Magic's Ted Mills and the Stylistics' Russell Thompkins, Jr. Most of the solo albums that Kendricks recorded for Motown in the '70s are worth owning, but if you're on a tight budget and want to stick to his more essential solo recordings, The Ultimate Collection would be the most logical purchase. Released in 1998, this generous disc contains 16 songs that he recorded after leaving the Temptations. Many of them are essential gems, including "Boogie Down," "Keep On Truckin'," "Get the Cream Off the Top" and "Shoeshine Boy." The late singer could be quite charismatic, and he brings plenty of charm to the ballad "Skippin' Work Today" and the title song of He's a Friend (which finds Kendricks expressing his Christian beliefs without preaching and/or getting in your face). Though not all of the selections are gems (some are merely decent), this is by far the best Kendricks collection available on CD.

Leaves You Wanting More!

This compilation is truly a testimony to the greatest of the late Eddie James Kendrick(s). It is truly a reminder of the great body of music that Eddie left for us all to enjoy. It leaves you wanting more..... songs such as "I did it all for you"; "I want to thank you for the memories"; "Going up in smoke"; or "You are the melody of my life". I can only hope the the Motowm folk will see fit to make available to the legions of Eddie's fan his entire catalog of timeess music.

Genious. Pure and Simple

Tell her love has felt the need is, to me in the same vain as some of Burt Bacarach's love songs.

Great compilation!

Eddie is my favorite solo artist! I have "Boogie Down" and "Eddie Kendricks" on vinyl. I'm 16 and I have his albums on my iPod. Teens nowadays think music from the sixties and seventies is trash. This album is an example of great music from Eddie's smooth vocals. Keep On Truckin!

Known for both his years with the Temptations and his major solo hits of the 1970s, Eddie Kendricks was among the many soul legends who did his part to put Motown Records on the map. The expressive vocalist (who often sang in a falsetto) grew up in Birmingham, AL, but it was Motown's original home of Detroit that made him a star. Kendricks was still living in Alabama in the late '50s, when he formed the Primes with Kell Osborne and Temptation-to-be Paul Williams. After moving from Alabama to Detroit,...
