Album Review

Once again, it's the instantly memorable, upbeat, radio-ready material that places Mary Mary at the forefront of contemporary gospel. When The Sound was released, the energizing "Get Up" was threatening to make as much of a crossover splash as 2000s "Shackles (Praise You)," and like four other songs front-loaded on Erica and Tina's fifth album — including the triumphant David Banner feature "Superfriend," the booming/bumping "God in Me," and the rambunctious '60s throwback title track ("Is it all right if I moan?!/Mmmmoooaaannn-nuh!") — there's more walloping vigor than what can be found in nearly any given modern, platinum-seeking R&B album. The disc's latter half is relatively indistinct, but it could never be said that the duo is going through the motions. The same goes for Erica's husband, undervalued veteran producer/songwriter Warryn Campbell.

Customer Reviews

I am concerned

This CD, I think, goes farther lyrically than Mary Mary has gone in the past with their music. Particularly in Boom, and Seattle. I appreciate the message put forth in that song, where if God gives you something to say, you need to say it and not hold it in. I can agree with that from experience. And for Mary Mary to even mention the Holy Spirit in a song, let alone ask Him to take over their whole life is impressive. It has never been done before by them. Period. I do wonder if it was done truthfully by certain things done on this CD. Because God In Me only expresses that I am flossing because God lives in me. Not because I prophesy, or live by the spirit and you are seeing the love that results from it. I look nice and I got money. And it's because of God in me. Ain't that prosperity teaching? I do believe in prosperity in Jesus Christ, but not more than you need, and the relationship with God is needed to add balance. And in Superfriend; God is not "something like the best of them," He IS the best of them. Let's say that, shall we? And why David Banner?! I hear you people who say we are supposed to reach out to the lost. I see where Jesus came for the lost. HOWEVER, they were found by the time he put them in a position to minister to other people, through music, preaching, serving, etc. They weren't lost and in the world, and being used so that Jesus could make money. Let's get this straight. Secular artists do not belong in collaboration with the things of God, unless they are no longer secular artists, but have joined the Kingdom of God and HE HAS APPOINTED THEM to do the work. So I agree with the one that questions David Banner's presence on this CD. I DO, TOO. There is a difference between reaching the lost, and using the lost to make money, expand your audience, and put forth a confusing version of the gospel. People I appreciate your passion to reach the world. Let's not manipulate the world to reach the world. That's why they call us hypocrites, now. Let's do this the right way, please. Stop making excuses. We are called to be separate and holy. BE HOLY! Musically, this CD would 4 stars. But spiritually, this CD is seriously lacking and is dry, earning only one star. So I gave it two. That's my final offer. lol.

Incredible Job My Sisters In Christ!!!

Once again you have truly let God's annointing take your work to an even higher level. You both really minister through your voices and song. In reference to the questioning of David Banner being on your project; I applaud you!!! As Christians we need to be about our father's business, and bringing souls to Christ. These people in the church today need to stop acting and sounding like the Pharisees, and look to be the salt of the earth. This the reason why The Church is NOT growing in America. Jesus preached to the sick...not the healthy. Matthew 7 says " Judging Others  1"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.  3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. My sista's do your thing!!! I say put em' all on there, and have them rap about Christ. Jeezy, TI, Wayne....let them all get a dose of that Living Water, and let the Holy Spirit do his thug thizzle!! Praise The Lord, and God Bless You Erica & Tina!!!

What is going on??

2 Corinthians 46:14-17.. Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?...Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye seperate, saith the Lord" You don't use the world to gain the world. If David Banner is "saved" then he should not be doing Hip Hop and rapping about things that go against the Word of God. Your lifestyle can falsify your confession! You can tell a tree by its fruit. Its time that the church gets out of this lukewarm stage because Jesus said He will spit you out! (Rev. 3:15-16) This is way bigger than just David Banner, this is the Church setting a horrible example for the lost. You can't come into Christ and live the way you want to live. You lay down your life for the Lord and live holy by His grace and love, not blend in with the world and say your saved. I speak the truth in love. - this is the gospel

One of the most commercially successful contemporary gospel acts of the 2000s, Mary Mary is the sisterly duo of Erica and Tina Atkins, who grew up in Inglewood, California in a family also comprised of five other sisters and a brother. The girls' parents were gospel singers, and before long the children were singing in their local church choir, eventually turning up on the Bobby Jones Gospel show on BET. The siblings joined the Michael Matthews traveling gospel show Mama I'm Sorry in 1995, followed...
