iTunes Review

Born and Raised is a set of organic cowboy songs dreamed up under a starry night sky. Songs like “Queen of California” and “Shadow Days” reflect a countrified worldview. “If I Ever Get Around to Living” shimmers with intricate arpeggios and gentle backup vocals. Melancholy harmonicas inform the mood of “Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey” and “A Face to Call Home.”

This ain't rock. This ain't country, either. This is John Mayer. He did it again.

All songs are similar, far from Continuum

I am a huge fan of John Mayer but it seems Continuum was his last good album. Battle Studies was mediocre at best and in this album he is trying to be "country" and its just really not a good sound for him. i think if he stuck to more guitar and less singing, his style would change back to the old style that he is known for.

Welcome Back John

This album sounds great and it reflects a new, mature John. It came at the perfect time: in the midst of all the fast-paced music fit for partying and spending a night out. Born & Raised is the perfect record for listening alone and reflecting upon yourself. It's thoughtfully written & deeply personal, something all John Mayer's fans will enjoy because he always has that way of conecting with our own thoughts & feelings. I think it sounds beautiful and I can't wait to listen to the rest

Arriving during the tail end of teen pop's heyday, he crafted pop music for a more discerning audience, spiking his songcraft with jazz chords and literate turns of phrase. The combination proved to be quite popular, as Room for Squares went triple platinum...
