Customer Reviews

The sound is golden

Paul Simon, in an album that was released some time ago at this point, stretched again and came up with something new; something wonderful. It took me a little time to relate to it, and even more to love it. I know it "bombed" on Broadway, probably for the same reasons I just related from when I first heard it. Back then, and after a few listens, I could not stop listening to it. I could envision the story being played out. There are moments that are so vivid and dynamic, either vocally or musically you could only think of them as stunning!

An Amazing Piece of True Genius

As a Paul Simon fan, I initially shyed away from this album, due to a bad reviews, stigma of the failed play, etc. However, a friend of mine recently introduced me to this album. Fact of the matter, I was wrong not to listen to it earlier. It truly is amazing and an epic musical work. I am irritated with myself for listening to reviews and not giving this album a chance. I have never listened to an album where I could truly visualize the story and "watch" it unfold. It is a cognitive and image-invoking work of art. True genius!!

Best Simon Album Ever

I have many Paul Simon albums but feel The Capeman is his best ever. I have owned it for several years now and continue to go back to it over and over. I realize the play was a bust but Paul pulls together a very evocative picture of life in the barrio in the Fifties... Adios Hermanos is melancholy but Quality is a real dance tune (especially the sax break). Not every song is a A, but there are no duds ether. Overall, it's definitely a compelling album and you won't regret buying it...

Paul Simon was one of the most successful and respected songwriters of the second half of the 20th century. Rising to fame in the mid-'60s, Simon's songs were mature and literate, but also melodically engaging, and spoke to the concerns and uncertainties of a generation. As the 1960s gave way to the '70s and '80s, Simon's work tended to focus on the personal rather than the larger world, but he also expanded his musical palette, and helped introduce many rock and pop fans to world music.
