UK Gem - Laid Isn't Close To The End Of Thier Fame

I came across "Getting Away With It (Live)" at a public library, recognized the band from my college DJing days and picked it up. I was in for the shock of my life! You will often read reviews of James with things like "Unsung Heroes" , "UK's Undiscovered Treasure" , or "Best Kept Secret". This is an extremely well done band with 20 years of history, amazing energy, unusual if not catchy lyrics and the extraordinary vocal talents of Tim Booth leading the way. Not a bad track on the "Best of..." but I advise that if you are new to James, go with "Getting Away With It (Live)" First. Cheers

Sad to see them go...

This band was immensely talented. The songs are top notch. Many of them never got airplay in the U.S. It's sad, because songs like Seven, Runaground, Destiny Calling, and Tomorrow were probably never considered to be commercially viable on U.S. radio, so James never got the wide critical acclaim they deserved, (at least in my mind.) They will always be one of my favorite bands and I am sad they are gone now. Hymn from a Village (not included here, but on iTunes, still) is another amazing song by James.

The Best of James

Boy I love this band! I had only come across them the other day, but I'm finding that I know many of their songs! This is probably the best album to buy from them (hence The "Best" of James), also because their other albums, sadly, have a lot of filler. While listening to it, (knowing that they reigned in the 90's) I realized similar tones and styles from bands today such as The Fray and Snow Patrol, so they have most likely been pretty influential on rock. Recommended buys (if you're too cheap to buy this awesome album in full) Sit Down Say Something Come Home (Flood Mix) Sometimes Tomorrow Ring the Bells

As one of the first groups to be dubbed "the next Smiths," James became an institution on the British alternative music scene during the '80s and '90s with their pleasant folk-pop. Early in their career, James were blessed by praise from their idol Morrissey, which turned out to be both a blessing and a curse. The group was pegged as second-rate Smiths, yet continued to tour and record, eventually gaining a sizable following. In the late '80s, James, like many of their British peers, became involved...
