EDITORS’ NOTES

Delta Goodrem was a small-screen actress before Innocent Eyes changed everything. Led by the heart-tugging “Born to Try,” Goodrem’s multi-million-selling debut announced a pop diva in waiting. Nailing dramatic rock (“Innocent Eyes”), classic balladry (“In My Own Time”), and snappy pop (“Running Away”), the album showcases Goodrem’s soaring voice and knack for emotionally charged arrangements. It’s not all powerhouse anthems though—tracks like “Lost Without You” and “Not Me, Not I” couch quite personal sentiments in their universal themes.

About Delta Goodrem

Australian singer/actress Delta Goodrem got her start on the popular soap opera Neighbours, and parlayed her fame from the show into a singing career. Her first album, the million-plus-selling Innocent Eyes, arrived in 2003 and featured songs co-written by pop songwriters such as Cathy Dennis. At that time, Goodrem was splitting her time between Neighbours and her pop career, but her diagnosis of Hodgkin's lymphoma forced her to slow down and re-evaluate her life. The direction for what was to become her next batch of songs came from Goodrem's physical and mental therapy. Recruiting a team of collaborators that included Dennis, Gary Barlow, and songwriter/producer Guy Chambers, who had also worked with pop stars including Robbie Williams, Goodrem used her experiences -- good and bad -- to create Mistaken Identity, which was released in the U.S. in summer 2005.

Her next project involved a different team, including Westlife's Brian McFadden for his pop acumen, Stuart Crichton for his dance smarts, and Nashville-based Tommy Lee James for ballads. The result, an album titled Delta and released through Decca, appeared in 2008. The album was largely composed of simple, straightforward pop songs as opposed to some of her earlier material that was anchored in particular emotions and personal experiences of her own. The record debuted at number one and went on to be certified triple platinum, following up with a nationwide tour of Australia in early 2009. Later on that year, she went on to record a duet track entitled "Right Here with You" with Olivia Newton-John to help raise money and increase awareness for Newton-John's cancer hospital in Melbourne. Goodrem returned to television screens in 2011 as a judging panelist for the Australian version of the talent show The Voice alongside fellow judges, Seal, Keith Urban, and Joel Madden.

In early 2012, she released another single, "Sitting on Top of the World," peaking at number two on the charts. The track was followed by her fourth full-length studio effort, Child of the Universe, in October 2012. Her Christmas EP followed in December. Goodrem returned for a fourth series of The Voice in 2015, and briefly reprised her role on Neighbours to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the show. During the fall of 2015, she made her stage debut, portraying the role of Grizabella in the Australian version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats. That summer saw the release of her fifth record, Wings of the Wild, in July of 2016. The album featured rapper Gizzle on the track "Enough," with two of the album's singles, "Wings" and "Dear Life," once again dominating the top of the ARIA Charts. She went on the road to promote the album in late 2016. ~ Heather Phares & Rob Wacey
