Customer Reviews

The "Ives" have it.......

The combo of these extraordinarily gifted musicians makes this album quite special indeed. From hearing Valentina early on (Liszt etc.-check out the unedited Virtuoso Valentina if you can ever find it) to recent performances of Hillary at Zorn's Stone, these women simply "have it all" The music, while not everyone's cup, is a part of American neo-classical that is sure to be considered vital to any serious collection. This offering is highly recommended on all fronts; sonically, musically, and (in the spirit of Ives) transcendentally. Brava Brava

Very nice

This is really well done. I also love Brian Crain Piano and Violin Duet and Dustin O'Halloran's Lumiere

They toured these sonatas around the world to much acclaim and then, here, finally recorded them for the rest of us who couldn't make the live performances. Bravo, ladies, and Mr Ives. I hope Deutsche Grammophon releases all of those Hahn works in their vault: I want to own and listen to them. She's (and Valentina) brilliant.

As is the case with many violin virtuosos, Hahn was anything if not precocious. She began studying the violin a Baltimore Suzuki class just before she turned four and started working with a private tutor, Klara Berkovich, about a year later. Hahn would work with her for the next five years at Peabody...
