iTunes Review

As the follow-up to their surprise hit Dookie, Insomniac is every bit as solid and true to the spirit of the Berkeley punk trio’s influences and interests. Success never changed Green Day in any discernible way. Billie Joe Armstrong continues to write the same quick, catchy, cute and quirky tunes he was writing before the world took note. “Armatage Shanks” picks up where “Longview” and “Basket Case” left off and the band continue to pummel with the same dedication of their punk heroes – the Jam, Buzzcocks, Descendents. Green Day’s emergence as punk’s most famous pop superstars never made them flinch, never made them question their approach. Unlike other alternative bands who felt a need to further explore their sonic realm, Green Day were a melodic punk band who saw their role as writing fast, strong songs that fans could dance and pogo to without thinking. “Walking Contradiction” attempts to make sense of this dichotomy, but the truth is in the irresistible hooks. “Geek Stink Breath” is a brilliant pop hook brought to further life with production that never tries to soften the attack.

Panic song and 86 Are Awesome This album is almost as good as Dookie.

Lost in the Haze

After the masterpiece that was _Dookie_, Green Day set out to re-establish themselves as a hard-hitting punk band. The result was _Insomniac_. From "Brat" to "Jaded" is one of the greatest homestretches in musical history, a deliberate kick in the shins that leaves you wanting more. Ten years after its release, people still marvel it its hard-hitting nature.

After Dookie came out everyone wanted more Green Day. What they got was Insomniac, most were disapointed, but I wasn't. Yeah Dookie was and still is awsome, but Insomniac totally kicked butt! In my opinion, this album was the perfect follow up to Dookie and proved to be better. From the opening drum fill in Armatage Shanks to the last chord in Walking Contradiction, Insomniac delivers. It is a muck darker album than Dookie or any previous Green Day album due to hard back lash of being called "sell-outs", which by the way who cares? All that matters is that they are a great band. Insomniac is nothing but pure punk. All the songs are great and very catchy. This is defintely my favorite Green Day album to date, and I highly reccomend this album to any fan new or old. For only $7.92 this album is a steal!!

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Out of all the post-Nirvana alternative bands to break into the pop mainstream, Green Day were second only to Pearl Jam in terms of influence. At their core, Green Day were simply punk revivalists who recharged the energy of speedy, catchy three-chord punk-pop songs. Though their music wasn't particularly innovative, they brought the sound of late-'70s punk to a new, younger generation with Dookie, their 1994 major-label debut. Dookie sold over ten million copies, paving the way for a string of multi-platinum...
