iTunes Editors’ Notes

In addition to his duties as Beastie Boys keyboardist, which have made him all but essential to the trio’s sound shapes, Money Mark (Ramos-Nishita) has made four solo albums since 1995. Alternating between globe-spanning instrumentals and singer-songwriterisms, they each bear the marks of his intelligence and humor. Even Brand New By Tomorrow, a full disc of soft-rock tunes released on folkie Jack Johnson’s Brushfire label, often zags where another, less playful writer’s album might zig. The opening “Color of Your Blues” floats on an Augustus Pablo-esque melodica line, while “Summer Blue” grafts a noise guitar solo over its lite-jazz groove. Though Brand New sometimes comes off a bit like what would’ve happened if Elliott Smith had gotten into trip-hop, the songs bear more of a puzzled demeanor than a hurt one. But they sink in surprisingly deeply after a few spins.

Customer Reviews

brand new by tomorrow is funky fresh

the long wait is over for the new money mark record and yes it's was worth it. all killer tracks with a lot of real funky soul, something that is missing from a lot of music today. check it!

MONEY MARK

Money Mark is amazing, if yall havent checked him out, do it now! he keeps that beachy feel that brushfire brings to every record while making everything a little more funky and upbeat.

Good Brushfire Addition

This album was well worth the wait to finish the Brushfire cycle. It's more laid back than anticipated, but exceptional none the less. Songs such as "Color Of Your Blues" have a strong Beatles resemblance while most of the album creates a sound all it's own. Key Tracks:Color Of Your Blues, Pick Up The Pieces, Summer Blue, My Loss Your Gain, Everyday I Die A Little, Nice To Me, Brand New By Tomorrow. Recommended along with the rest of the Brushfire Crew (Jack Johnson, Matt Costa, ALO, and G. Love)
