iTunes Review

Though best known for his early work alongside the Fresh Prince, Philly DJ and producer Jazzy Jeff continues to put in work, running his own studio, mentoring new artists, rocking crowds around the world, and releasing quality work like The Magnificent and Return of the Magnificent, plus a gang of top-shelf mixtapes. This EP reissues four standout cuts from The Magnificent, which was shamefully slept on upon its initial release in 2001. For da Love of da Game is an instantly likeable, inspirational joint about the plight of an up-and-coming artist, built on breezy guitar licks and butter smooth keys, with strong rhymes from Philly artists Pauly Yamz and Baby Blak, "Are U Ready?" features Slum Village (back when Dilla was still in the crew), and "Da Rebirth" rocks roughneck verses from Cy Young, over some extremely grimy high-hats and snares.

The Beat Generation Series was the best producing series ever... Jazzy always brings it

sick as always

gotta love jazzy. he knows what hes doing thats for sure.

Now this is a story
all about how my life
got twisted upside down
and id like to take a minute
just sit right there
ill tell you how i became the prince
of a town called Bel-Air

In west Philadelphia
born and raised
on the playground my momma said
most of my days
chilling out, maxing
and relaxing all cool
and all shooting some b-ball
outside of school
when a couple of guys
they were up to no good
started making trouble in our neighborhood
i got in one little fight and my mom got scared
she said your moving
in with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air

i whisted for a cab and when it came near
the license plate said fresh
and had dice in the mirror
if anything i could say that this cab was rare
but i thought nah, forget it
yo home to bel-air!

i-pulled- up tp a house about seven or eight
i yelled to the cabbie yo home, smell you later
looked at my kingdom i was finally there
to sit on my throne as the prince of bel-air

This is just amazing, period, point Blank, it is just that good. Takes me back, but in a good way, yet its all current.

DJ Jazzy Jeff's accomplishments extend well beyond his status as one-half of a multi-platinum rap duo. Regarded as a pioneering turntable tactician for his well-honed skills and for his development of the transformer scratch, the Philadelphian (born Jeff Townes) founded a production house -- called A Touch of Jazz -- a few years into his alliance with Will Smith as DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince. Since parting ways with his partner, the DJ has worked on records by KRS-One, Kenny Lattimore, Jill...
