Fascination with a city turned into beautiful music

Dave Brown's 'can't-pin-it-down-to-a-single-sound' project Brazzaville shines on this album.
The purity of the songs and the overall sound is great and refreshing.
Peachtree, 17, and Bosphorus are stand-outs, yet it's hard to pick a favorite since the album flows as a singular piece of work, it's hard to stop once you get into first couple of songs. The whole album is very focused, and refined (after all, the title is a city's name, out of all things) but also has a raw quality to its songwriting.
Producer Deniz Cuylan's work on this album is also notable - the linear notes reveal a great line-up of musicians, in classic Brazzaville fashion. Smokey Hormel's distinct guitar sound is nicely augmented by subtle percussion work of Berke Can Ozkan, Cem Misirlioglu and Hakan Vreskala.
After a few months of listening this is still in heavy rotation on my iTunes.
