iTunes Editors’ Notes

With their two founding members having served time in boy band Mytown and made the rounds in L.A. as songwriter-producers, The Script emerged fully formed on their eponymous debut, a self-assured collection of alt, pop, and R&B: Ireland's answer to OneRepublic. This is joyous, energetic stuff, anchored by lively keys, driving beats, and Donny O'Donoghue's vibrant vocals, with huge choruses waiting around every corner. Highlights include the briskly rocking "Talk You Down" and the shuffling, contemplative "We Cry." But the blue ribbon here goes to "Breakeven," a towering midtempo pop track with an unforgettable bass riff and O'Donoghue's stratospheric crooning.

this album is beautiful. perfection.

Impressive Start

I was in Ireland when I first heard the single "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" and was hooked right away. It pushed me to go ahead and purchase the album from the UK's Amazon, since it was not available here yet. One listen to the whole album was all that it took to make me love this new band. I am one of those people who warm to an album after listening to it many times, but with this album I was immediately in love. I highly recommend this album! If, however, you are like me and are wary about buying an entire album, then I would recommend the songs "Talk You Down", "The Man Who Can't Be Moved", "Breakeven", "The End Where I Begin", and "Fall for Anything". Clever lyrics like "Cos when a heart breaks no it don't break even", "I'm not...broke I'm just a broken hearted man..." Happy listening!

A self-described "Celtic soul" trio, the Script were founded by guitarist Mark Sheehan and vocalist Danny O'Donoghue in 2001. The two musicians had previously performed together in Mytown, an Irish-based boy band that enjoyed moderate success at home but failed to generate international acclaim. After the group disbanded, Sheehan and O'Donoghue spent several years in Los Angeles, where they worked as producers alongside the likes of Teddy Riley, the Neptunes, and Rodney Jerkins. They later relocated...
