EDITORS’ NOTES

Ireland's The Script balance a ton of disparate elements on their debut album: They're fast-talking yet sensitive, peppy yet fond of sumptuous ballads, grandiose yet approachably intimate. Frontman Danny O'Donoghue's passionate delivery is the heart of his band's lush, multidimensional modern rock. The ease with which he goes from a scratchy whisper to a soaring falsetto on "Breakeven (Falling to Pieces)" demonstrates their shape-shifting grace, while the New Wave reggae of "Rusty Halo" proves that they're just as good at the business of rocking out.

Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics.

Impressive Start

I was in Ireland when I first heard the single "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" and was hooked right away. It pushed me to go ahead and purchase the album from the UK's Amazon, since it was not available here yet. One listen to the whole album was all that it took to make me love this new band. I am one of those people who warm to an album after listening to it many times, but with this album I was immediately in love. I highly recommend this album! If, however, you are like me and are wary about buying an entire album, then I would recommend the songs "Talk You Down", "The Man Who Can't Be Moved", "Breakeven", "The End Where I Begin", and "Fall for Anything". Clever lyrics like "Cos when a heart breaks no it don't break even", "I'm not...broke I'm just a broken hearted man..." Happy listening!
