iTunes Review

Michael was the first album of songs released after Michael Jackson's 2009 death. It primarily features tracks Jackson had been working on before he died, along with several songs dating from the Thriller era of 1982. Controversy will always arise regarding material that an artist couldn't have given final approval to, but the tracks here are consistent with the sounds and styles Jackson had worked with throughout his career. The list of producers and guest musicians is long and in keeping with the more-the-merrier approach Jackson employed after the Bad album ended his affiliation with producer Quincy Jones. "(I Like) The Way You Love Me" first appeared in a much different form on a 2004 career retrospective and is typical of the gorgeous melodicism that Jackson often explored. Akon shows up for "Hold My Hand." 50 Cent is featured on "Monster," and Lenny Kravitz worked on "(I Can't Make It) Another Day." The album's final cut—"Much Too Soon," from the Thriller era—is an orchestrated ballad that takes on greater poignancy with his tragic passing.

Michael Jackson- Michael

I'm gonna do this review alittle different than usual, and instead of a track by track...focus on the album as a whole. If still alive, I don't think Michael wouldn't have wanted this collection to have been released. As a huge Michael fan, this is rather dissapointing to say... but overall this album isn't very good compared to Michaels classics. Michael was a perfectionist, someone who focused on every little detail from the production to the vocals. What I received was a poorly produced set of songs which debatably could not even be Michaels voice. If you are a Michael Jackson fan, I would buy this out of respect for the king of pop, but honestly this was made more for the industry than him. But there are still a few standouts such as Monster and Much To Soon. RIP Michael Jackson, even though this isn't the best work your music will still live on forever.

It just isn't right...

Let me be the first to say that I am a devoted and lifelong Michael fan. That is why this album in many ways is just simply not right. The perfectionist that Michael was would not have allowed us preview to these songs that, quite honestly, feel half-baked and unfinished. The production kills what is left of the singer's voice and plunges it under another artist, like 50 cent rapping and the songs lack any of the appeal of a true Jackson song. This isn't how it supposed to be. Michael's estate noted that they agreed to a 250 million dollar deal in which many of these albums will be pushed out. iTunes citizens - as in the case of the This Is It Film - this is not how Michael would have wanted us to remember him by! To quote Washington Post writer Chris Richards, "In [this] sense, "Michael" only amplifies the tragedy of Jackson - an artist who rose too fast to ever gain control of his life and died too suddenly to steer the direction of his legacy." Now, let me offer you some advice - go dig up a couple of old Jackson albums and crank 'em up. I guarantee you will have 10x the level of nostalgia in one verse from any song on Thriller than the forced remembrance paraded here. RIP MJ.

Michael never fails. great album.

Michael Jackson wasn't merely the biggest pop star of his era, shaping the sound and style of the '70s and '80s; he was one of the defining stars of the 20th century, a musician who changed the contours of American culture. A preternaturally gifted singer and dancer, Jackson first rose to stardom in 1969 as the 11-year-old frontman for his family's band, the Jackson 5. As remarkable a run as the Jackson 5 had -- at the dawn of the '70s, each of their first four singles went to number one and they...
