EDITORS’ NOTES

Whip It rocks and flows with a healthy dose of estrogen-fueled angst that contrasts nicely with some amatory serenades. Nebraska indie rock quintet Tilly and the Wall set the tone with catty slam-book animosity that blends hints of ‘50s rockabilly with heaps of that Switchblade Sisters inspired girl-gang toughness. Following this volatile gem with The Ramones’ “Sheena Is A Punk Rocker” is a perfect match, and though The Breeders’ “Cannonball” from 1993’s Last Splash might have been a better choice in keeping with the movie’s theme, 2008’s “Bang On” is definitely more relevant in its stylish minimalism. The go-go shoegazing of The Raveonettes’ “Dead Sound” fits here like tight leather jacket. But not every tune was meant to accompany womanly wrangling. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah provide a beautifully moody little instrumental in “Blue Turning Grey” and Jens Lekman somehow makes slicing up an avocado sound romantic — though Har Mar Superstar’s spot on cover of The Association’s “Never My Love” is the sweetest surprise here.

The song that everyone is wondering about is Kids by MGMT. It's in the scene of the movie where the roller derby girl rescue bliss from the blue bonnet pagent

Crown of AGE!!!

Awesome movie with an amazing soundtrack. Biggest standout is "Crown of Age" by The Ettes. It completely captures that energy of roller derby and has a hot beat. A must buy, you get it now(you won't be sorry).
