Reseña de álbum

In case you're wondering: yes, this is still Brookville, the alter ego of Ivy lead singer Andy Chase. And yes, this is a departure from 2003's Wonderfully Nothing and 2006's Life in the Shade. Broken Lights is an authentic look at the dismantling of Chase's life, an evocation of a period in which the weight of wearing too many hats caused the studio owner/record label founder/producer/singer/songwriter to fully retreat from his life and dissect his very reasons for being. When artists dig that deeply, they don't always come back out. But not only did Chase emerge, he did so having penned some of the greatest and most intimately personal songs of his life. The result is a moody, experimental collection with Chase's nuanced vocals backed up by '70s-style lounge rock guitar. It has a Fleetwood Mac-10,000 Maniacs vibe: a smattering of backseat grooves, and steady-handed guitar work. It reaches its height on the disco-inflected "Tell Her You Love Her" and retreats back to a close on "End of the World." Broken Lights' best features are its recapping of a torn man and the reluctance to reveal whether or not he ever put himself back together again.

The Best Album so far by this Artist !!!!!!!

Every song is pratically a hit. This is the best CD so far take all the past ones and add them up it equals this one. I apprciate it when an artist works hard to get it just right for us. This probably will define this dude he's got the sound right and I hope it really puts him on the map. Thanks Bro hopefully I can catch you with the Rubies and The postmarks in new york november this year. GREAT!!!!!

love every song

I've been a big brookville fan since the Ivy days. The songs on this album are just as good and maybe even better. Great Mistake is a pristine pop confection and Tell Her You Love Her has a great hook that lingers in your mind. The songs on Broken Lights show that Andy Chase has an increase confidence in his pop sensibility and an overall strengthening of melodies. At times some of the songs meander into the dark corners of his mind, but overall Broken Lights sounds as though it was conceived as a whole piece and one that highlights his songwriting abilities.

Ivy fan, Brookville fan. Every song is interesting and catchy. I'm killing this album in my car and at home right now. Way to go.

When he's not making records with Ivy, Andy Chase shapes a quirky kind of sound under the Brookville moniker. Chase started Brookville in the late '90s as an outlet for his experimental, Euro-romantic musical textures. With the encouragement of singer/songwriter Eric Matthews, Brookville mastered a few songs before the decade's end. In 2003, Chase launched his own label, Unfiltered, and released Brookville's debut, Wonderfully Nothing. The album, which is a solo album of sorts, featured collaborative...
