Customer Reviews

A promising young composer emerges.....

With it's memorable themes and stylistic variations the score to The Bronx Bull is a brilliant debut of an emerging film composer. From the solemn self reflective Jakes Theme piano solo to the primal driving percussion of Jailyard Boxing, Ched Tolliver's score captures the tenderness and turmoil of the the fim's protaganist Jake LaMotta. The score's influences range from symphonic, to ragtime and even some notes of the avant garde, while remaining a cohesive whole in support of the drama. Discover this talented musician now, so in a few years time when his themes are gracing the Academy's halls you can say smugly to your friends "well I knew him when."

Austere Beauty

This is a score of layered sensitively and melodicism, with some wonderful string arrangements. Much pathos and emotionalism are contained within, though it never lapses into sentimentality or grandiosity. I have not seen the film, but I have no doubt that the score enriches it in a remarkable way. Mr. Tolliver is fresh voice that I will be watching/listening to, in the future!

Bullish on the Bronx Bull Score

Wonderful score. Subtle and full of nuance and then bold and compelling.
