Album Review

Wolf's final studio album found her continuing to capably explore pretty much the same musical territory she always had, perhaps with a slightly heavier heart and somewhat more acute lyricism. She was still looking for new ways to modify her core approach, making imaginative use of dobro and steel guitar player Mike Auldridge, and Celtic harpist Kim Robertson.

Kate Wolfe's Music Will Enrich You

iTunes for some reason does not, but should, carry her earlier albums. This album, released years after her death from Leukemia, includes new versions of the plaintive "Crying shame," and the powerful "Brother Warrior." "Carolina Pines" is a melancholic song about home, one of her central themes. She will touch you with her poetry and melodic tone. If you seek thoughtful lyrics, written for adults, sung in a manner that opens you up, then this album belongs in your collection.

Poet's Heart - Kate Wolf

This is without a doubt one of the best albums I have ever heard. It opens your eyes to how we all must take care of what we have in life. Listen to "See Here, She Said" and think about what Kate had ahead of her in her last days. It did move me.

poets heart Kate Wolf

Kates love lives on. So many of us love being moved by her music. she pulls the memories from my heart, brings them to the fore to be felt as strongly as though occuring again. My personal favorite song on this album is Carolina Pines though in my hearts memories it is Soldier Pond Pines. God Bless and keep Kate.

Biography

Born: January 27, 1942 in San Francisco, CA

Genre: Singer/Songwriter

Years Active: '70s, '80s

Although she was a significant presence on the folk scene between the late '70s and mid-'80s, it's difficult to categorize Kate Wolf as a folk performer (though that is ultimately the broad category that suits her best). Although she largely employed acoustic instrumentation, she really owed more to the contemporary singer/songwriter movement than folk-based traditions. While it's easy to imagine her music appealing to fans of, say, Joni Mitchell, she never made the slightest impact on the rock audience,...
