Album Review

Buddy Jewell kicked around Texas roadhouses from his teens to his early thirties, then kicked around Nashville until his early forties, supporting himself as a demo singer, until the reality series Nashville Star gave him by popular acclamation what the country music industry had denied him, a recording contract. On his first album, Jewell is thoroughly competent to sing the formula country songs that have been rounded up for him (three of which even feature his name in the songwriting credits), and he gets across the points the songs have to make in their lyrics.

Surprised this hasn't received more attention

This is an excellent CD! I watched the show, thought he was good, and was excited that Clint Black was producing. Even the few not-so-great tracks are 3 or 4 star worthy. I Wanna Thank Everyone is a perfect ode to the companies that passed him over for so many years. Help Pour is a great tune (theology not withstanding). The first 6 songs are just fantastic. I would recommend this highly.

Buddy Jewel

Ever since Nashville Star I've been listening to this talented musician. I understand that he has been singing vocals for big names in Nashville for a long, long time....when he won Nashville Star a few years ago and got signed to do an album, I thought he'd shoot right to the top...he's actually got a real voice, range, styling, talent as a songwriter, good looks.....I don't get it....Melissa Lambert, who came in second on the show, is now a huge star, and Buddy got left in the dust. Rarely hear him on country radio, no tour, no publicity....nothing. This is a great country album in every sense, and he should be making lots more, but he's nowhere to be found. I have to wonder who he pissed off!!

Great album!

I didn't watch Nashville Star, I actually found out about him through the song "Today I Started Loving You Again" a reworking that he did with Miranda Lambert (also from Nashville Star). The cd is worth buying for that song alone. I am guessing that Lacey is his daughter, that song is amazing to me too! So mellow...what a great voice he has!

Country singer Buddy Jewell's meteoric rise caused him to be tagged an "overnight sensation," but looking back at his ten years in Nashville obscurity, Jewell considers himself a modern-day Rip Van Winkle. A native of Arkansas, Jewell's earliest musical memories are staring into his parents' radio looking for the "little people" that he thought were living inside. Years later he bought a guitar for ten dollars from a schoolmate and purchased some instructional books with the money he earned bagging...
