Solid lyrics and beats

Lyrical performances: vivid images, complex rhyme schemes, lyrics that DON'T suffer to maintain rhyme schemes [a huge pitfall for most rappers], and references showing deep knowledge of underground hip-hop in an unpretentious, non-alienating way. Beats: some dusty, textured samples from moldy crates mixed with stripped-down drum patterns, which never distract the listener from C-Ron's performance in centerstage and the guests. In general, songs can have strong but mismatched beats that distract and have nothing to do with the tone of the performance. Or they can have a fitting but weak Casio-beat which is also distracting. But here, it's refreshing to see a balance where the beats do their job, and you're not taken out of the song.

I remember this psychotronic mother from the days when my brother used to play every Saturday in the bowls of ODB, till it got moved see, then it was where the SBP used to be. He'd be rockin' that live sh17, freestylin', I couldn't believe and had to be rewindin', cause I taped that since I had to listen twice to comprehend and distill the politico-horror skill beginning to end. If my man here makes it to the top, then he won't stop, because he never dropped a rhyme; never didn't have the time to say what's up, and that's fine since now he's got my dime. And I know it's that ill sh17, since this dude so ill he's the walking dead, makes other DJ's mics feel made of lead, their mouths give head, and you should buy the CD instead, since it's uncompressed but since I'm so impressed I guess I buy the MP3 and let it be. -Jon Gilbert

Extremely Underrated

Two albums in and Cadalack Ron has done nothing but make really consistent, interesting, music. Heartfelt without being emo. Self-effacing without being self-conscious. Just incredible stuff really. I know people usually just rate 5 stars if they like it but I have standards; it is not a commentary on whether this album is flawed much at all. It's no Illmatic, but it's not only some of the best 'battle rapper scene' music but plainly just very good studio album work. I'm bout to copy/paste this review onto his newer album because he is that consistent.
