iTunes Editors’ Notes

Campfire documents this freewheeling Irish Christian combo leading a congregation in praise of the Savior around a beachside blaze. The set features both favorite tunes from the group’s earlier albums and new material, infusing them all with a foot-stomping energy that brings to mind the likes of Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers. Rend Collective Experiment has built an international following by stripping back modern worship music to its populist roots; here, the group goes even further toward primal simplicity. Co-lead singer Chris Llewellyn kicks things off with a tender rendition of the folk hymn “Kumbaya” before partner Will Heron joins him in leading the crowd through “Come on My Soul,” “Movements,” “Build Your Kingdom Here," and similarly rousing numbers. A winsome tone slowly builds through the rendition of Matt Redman’s “10,000 Reasons” and the rollicking “Praise Like Fireworks” brings Campfire’s worshipful festivities to an ecstatic conclusion. Throughout, the combo’s unfettered interplay of guitars, accordion, fiddle, banjo, standup bass, and hand-held percussion keeps the music flowing.

Pure joy

Everything about this is great---the instrumentation; the unveiled and genuine level of intimacy; the pure and simply-joyful sense of worship and praise. "Campfire" has had me grinning and singing along all day, has moved something deep within me and awakened worship-inspired joy. I can't help but imagine God's smiling along as well.

New Wave

These guys represent the new wave of christian music. Great sound, incredible lyrics, phenomenal instrumentals. BUY BUY BUY. Go God yeah c'mon!

Enough changes to be worth it

Very nice treatment of 10,000 Reasons. The fiddle & banjo in several tunes are a real treat. After my first listen through, one of the best things is the way they've re-imagined several of their better songs to fit informal, more organic worship groupings -- these are ideas with which we can run in our own communities. Now, to make myself a Jingling Johnny...

Formed: 2007 in Bangor, Northern Ireland

Genre: Christian & Gospel

Years Active: '00s, '10s

A modern praise & worship band out of Northern Ireland, the Rend Collective (formerly known as the Rend Collective Experiment) is exactly what the name says, more a spiritual and creative collective than a band per se, blending praise lyrics with a kind of experimental folk-rock approach. Growing out of a group of Christian friends looking for a way to bring spirituality more in line with the complexities and confusions of life in the 21st century, the band, at least when it tours, consists primarily...
