Ronnie James Dio: This Is Your Life

When Ronnie James Dio joined Black Sabbath for Heaven and Hell, it was viewed with great suspicion. After all, who could replace Ozzy Osbourne? That Dio won over the fans and established himself as one of heavy metal’s signature lead singers is a testament to his tenacious nature that finally paid off. His death in 2010 from stomach cancer hasn’t lessened his presence in the metal scene, which continues to pay homage to his style night after night. Now this tribute album includes a star-studded lineup, including Jack Black’s goofy Tenacious D performing a relatively straight version of “The Last in Line.” Anthrax and Adrenaline Mob charge through their tunes as if Dio were about to enter from stage right. Halestorm bring a female vocalist to reach the notes of “Straight from the Heart.” Killswitch Engage bring back their popular cover of “Holy Diver.” Motörhead team with Saxon frontman Biff Byford for “Starstruck.” Slipknot singer Corey Taylor, backed primarily by his Stone Sour bandmates, reworks “Rainbow in the Dark.” Former Dio bandmates come together for the gorgeous “Catch the Rainbow.”
