iTunes Review

As a published poet and graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, the reigning alt-country star from West Monroe, La., writes songs that play out like short stories put to the best roots music available. Gordon's attention to detail also means his albums take a long time to come together; Gloryland is his first album in seven years. "Colfax/Step in Time" unwinds over 10 minutes to dramatically tell of Gordon's days in the high school band, where racism rears its ugly head and student bravery and class carry the day. Regina and Ann McCrary add their gospel-influenced backing vocals for a spiritual touch. "Bus to Shreveport" chronicles a ZZ Top concert ("at the worst-sounding arena in the United States"), where things get out of hand on the streets and 12-year-old Gordon watches his uncle save the day by waving a pistol. "Side of the Road" goes even further back to Gordon at age five, seeing ripe cotton fields for the first time. "Don't Stop Me This Time" confronts the realities of the modern musician and poet. Inviting stories and gritty tunes.

This is an AWESOME album!

What a great record. I never post reviews, but I'm just floored by the songwriting here. Production is also pretty spectacular.

Kevin Gordon is one of the most under-rated musicians. I have seen him live and I can't get enough of his music! The next best thing is sitting back and listening to his CD's!
The guy is so d**mn talented! I just wish everyone could listen to this talented guy. He is simply awesome!
