iTunes Editors’ Notes

On March 16, 1991, eight members of McEntire's touring group were killed in an airplane crash near San Diego. Her grief over the loss found expression in one of her most poignant and enduring albums, For My Broken Heart. Themes of separation and loneliness tinge many of the tracks with melancholy, heightened by Reba's deeply expressive singing. "All Dressed Up (With Nowhere to Go)" deals with the isolation of the elderly, while "The Greatest Man I Never Knew" mourns the emotional distance between father and child. The longing for freedom heard in "Is There Life Out There" adds another shade of yearning. For balance, McEntire offers her version of the '70s pop story-song "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" with melodramatic flair. For all its meditations on sorrow, For My Broken Heart is ultimately a work of healing, as well as a modern-day country classic.

A Must Have!!!

This is one of the best Reba albums ever. It is filled with raw emotion that stems from her own personal tragedy of losing her band members and pilots in a plane crash. Personally for me, this is the album I put on when I'm feeling less than cheery. It's as is Reba is singing these songs for me and relaying the emotions I'm feeling. The final song on the CD is a total gut-wrencher! It's so perfectly unperfect. This is a must have for any Reba fan!

A Somber Classic.

This is a tough one. For My Broken Heart is a very difficult CD to listen to, however, in my opinion, it is Reba at her finest. Taking her personal pain and applying it to her music created some of her best songs. This is definitely that portrays various levels of pain, from the yearning of better days on "Is There Life out There" to the end of love on songs such as "He's in Dallas" and "Buying her Roses." The album ends on a beautifully sad note with "If I had Only Known," a tribute to her fallen band members. I do not know how Reba found the strength to record and perform this song, however it is a lovely tribute. The one thing is that while the overall tone of the CD is that of sadness, you are not left feeling bombarded. There are many elements of hope that shine through. The world doesn't stop for our broken hearts and Reba demonstrates this perfectly. This is definitely a stunning album that is a must have for a Reba fan and for anyone who can appreciate good musical content.

One of Reba's all hit albums

It's a lot of sob stories. How's that for a review? All ten songs are good. So, I purchased, " For My Broken Heart ", instead of wasting money on a greatest hits album.
