Oh my!

I heard this phenomenal rendition of Bye Bye Blackbird the other night on NPR. If took me two iTunes searches, but I finally found the source of this beautiful melody was none other than Nancy Harms. I purchased the cd and have not ceased to be amazed track after track. The jazz band that accompanies these perfectly tamed vocals knows what they are doing! This is a must will not be disappointed. How am I just hearing of this?!?!

Nancy Harms has hit the ground running with the recording and release of "In The Indigo."
Her smooth voice moves the listener from one beautiful musical moment to the next. Her version of "Cry Me a River" is particularly good. It is both fresh and yet still rooted and familiar enough to attempt to sing along! She tackles John Mayer in "Great Indoors" and, I think, does a fantastic job translating the song into a slightly different environment. ("I'd love to see Harms sing "Great Indoors" with Mayer... that would be a treat!)

My favorite on the album is "Bye Bye Blackbird." Hats off to the instrumentation and those skilled hands at work to produce that sound. It is a GREAT showcase of Harm's vocal talent as well as the talent of the musicians she had around her for this album!

This is a MUST buy. It is far more than background music (although it fills any room nicely) but really is a great musical and listening experience. You will not be disappointed!

Haunting Voice

Nancy Harms is more than just a pretty song-stylist. Her interpretations aim for what I often hear TV chefs describe as a heavy complexity of flavors. She's not simply out for mere rubber-stamped amplification, but instead keeps some of her cards close. She turns some of the more overt sentiments of songs like "I'm Pulling Through" and "Reach for Tomorrow" into bemused and ambiguous question marks. IN THE INDIGO is a striking and mature debut from a flowering talent.
