Arthur Hanlon, "Piano Sin Fronteras"
Arthur Hanlon is a pianist and composer, but his albums are collaborative works that bring together top names and result in amazing music. "Piano Sin Fronteras" is by far the best he's recorded so far, and he's lined up an amazing roster of artists, including Colombian rock star Juanes, pop superstars Laura Pausini (from Italy), Ricardo Montaner (from Venezuela), Luis Fonsi (from Puerto Rico), Alexandre Pires (from Brazil), Myriam Hernandez (Chile) and guitarist Sergio Vallin (Mexico). It is the kind of album one has to listen to again and again, in the process discovering a breathtaking array of music, with each song marrying Arthur's distinctive piano to another unique voice or instrument. "Piano Sin Fronteras" begins with the title track, which is, appropriately, all instrumental. It's an uplifting, hopeful track, the kind one can picture in a film, and one that establishes Arthur's skill at the piano, but also, his capacity to write catchy, melodic lines, even without a voice. "Que Tu Piano Hable Por Ti," the first single, features Myriam Hernandez, who can be described as a kind of Latin Faith Hill, with an incredibly powerful voice that really comes together in the gospel-like chorus. I also love the totally fun "Te Quiero Llevar," with Luis Fonsi, which is kind of a Motown/bluesy romp. With Juanes, Arthur does something different--a piano/guitar track, and it's amazing. Juanes has such distinctive paying. There's also piano and guitar in Cafe Con Leche, a track with flamenco leanings that he plays with Sergio Vallin (guitarist from Mexican rock group Mana). My favorite may be "Prendo Te," a piano/voice duet with Laura Pausini. Just enjoy this beautiful album, time and time again.
Great album--his best so far and I have his last four discs. WHY isn't this guy a MAJOR star yet?!?!??!?
