iTunes Editors’ Notes

Whether it was her church-choir experience or an innate capacity for pop-rock singing, Sharp tears up just about everything she gets her hands on. That ranges from her hits (“Mashed Potato Time,” “Ride!,” “Do the Bird”) to hidden gems like “Deep Dark Secret” (a big hunk of pre-soul helmed by Four Seasons producer Bob Crewe) and otherwise standard girl-group fare like “Where Did I Go Wrong” and “Willyam, Willyam” (where she busts a reticent fiancé: “Are you just a turkey in the straw, boy?/Don’t you want to have a mother-in-law?”). Tough Gal.

Original Hits EXCEPT "Slow Twistin'"

This is the ONLY Dee Dee Sharp CD that has the original versions of her hits, 1962-1966. The one exception is fun too: "Slow Twistin'" has DEE DEE singing the lead vocal instead of Chubby Checker. It's an alternate take recorded around the same time as the hit version. If you want the hit version of "Slow Twistin'", see ANY of the other Cameo Parkway CDs available on iTunes. A good sounding package of hits.

The Best (Sort of) of Dee Dee Sharp 1962 - 1966

Dee Dee Sharp evokes such fond memories of growing up in the 60's. The dance crazes, American Bandstand, the innocence of the era. The one song that is not in this collection, and has to be among Dee Dee's best is "Set My Heart At Ease." It was the B-side of the original Mashed Potato 45 rpm record by Cameo Records. I used to play both sides on my little record player until I wore the record (both sides) out. I wish I-Tunes would find it and offer it to us.

I'm doing a project on the 60s and this album is the best to show the Peace, Love and Rockin' Rebellion during the 1960s!

Dee Dee Sharp hit the biggest with her first record for the Cameo/Parkway label, a blessing that pigeonholed the Philly songstress as a teenybopper forever to be identified with her number one smash from 1962, "Mashed Potatoes Time." Living in Philadelphia, the home of Dick Clark's American Bandstand helped her career; she appeared on the syndicated teen dance show many times from 1962 to 1981. The first...
