iTunes Editors’ Notes

Together with Ruby & the Romantics (“Our Day Will Come”), the Tymes were practitioners of the “lounge soul” subgenre, which flourished briefly in 1963. This quintet’s hits, “So Much in Love” and “Wonderful! Wonderful!” (a version of Johnny Mathis’ 1957 chart debut), pioneered an airy sort of R&B-lite which the group effortlessly replicated on a klatch of standards covers and originals. The same finger-snaps-and-“ooh-we-ooh” arrangements animate “Somewhere,” “Wonderland of Love,” and “The Lamp Is Low.” “Chances Are” revisits the Johnny Mathis catalog, while “Here She Comes” bumps up the rhythm to a mid-tempo Impressions gait.

Finally! The Original Recordings

It took 30+ years but finally, the original versions of So Much in Love and Wonderful! Wonderful!. I had to buy a remake album of those songs (actually performed by The Tymes) just to have them in my collection. The problem was the songs did not sound as good as the originals since The Tymes were 25 years older when they did the remake. It is great to finally have the original songs that I remember growing up in the '60s. Hats off to whoever made this album possible.

The Best of the Tymes

I have the original long play album from years ago and have searched for quite some time for an updated version on CD. Thanks iTunes for bringing us this great music. It brings back so many memories and the music is still incredible.

Decent enough of a album though I dont understand one thing..

As I have said, good enough of a album, nice songs, good music, etc, which is why I even bothered to give it 3 stars besides one major gripe. Nothing much else to say but to ask one obvious question, that being why the hell isn't "You Little Trustmaker" on this album for God's sake? For what reason(s) real or imagined? Other than that, this album would have been a automatic buy, but as it stands, for that omission it's now rather a curiosity to me.

The Tymes began as the Latineers in 1956. This Philadelphia ensemble's founding members were Donald Banks, Albert Berry, Norman Burnett, and George Hilliard. After a four-year apprenticeship on the city's club circuit, they changed their name to the Tymes in 1960 and added lead singer George Williams. They were signed by Cameo-Parkway in 1963 following a successful appearance at a talent show sponsored by Philly radio station WDAS. The group scored its biggest hit with its debut single, "So Much...
