iTunes Review

An Ohio emcee best known for his work with producer Blueprint, Illogic has been doing his thing since the mid-'90s, making a name for himself as a top-shelf freestyler and dropping several records on Weightless Recordings, including Unforeseen Shadows, Got Lyrics?, and Celestial Clockwork, plus multiple mixtapes and collaborations with likeminded subterranean rappers like Aesop Rock and Slug. Following up two volumes of the Prepare for Capture EPs, he and Blockhead break fans off with Capture the Sun, a rock-solid effort full of intricate, intelligent wordplay and inventive, genre-bending production. Highly personal, autobiographical rhymes are the order of the day, set to compelling beats that fuse obscure samples, melodramatic strings, slick cuts, and unconventional drumwork. Don't sleep on "Never Heard," "Where's the Exit," and "One Way Ticket."

A step in the right direction for both artists

I came upon this album not as an Illogic fan, but as a huge Blockhead fan. However, after I listened to this album, with Illogic's dense, poetic verses and unique flow, I looked at the artist in a whole new light. Both are defiantly taking a step out of their comfort zones: Block's beats have a more artsy vibe to them than in previous releases, and Illogic's lyrics deal with more personal topics. A few of my favorites:
"Neva Heard"
"Capture the Sun (feat. Slug"
"Bridges"
"Justified (feat. Blueprint)"
Some of the songs take a few listens, but all in all, this might be one of the best releases of the year so far. Highly recommended for any lover of hip-hop.

Great Release!

A whole bunch of great music out today. This may be the best release of the day. Take that Ghost and Kudi....Blockhead's beats and Illogic's heady raps own my iPhone today.

Of course.

Illogic & Blockhead….It's dope…What else would you expect?
