Album Review

This CD reissue features pianist Randy Weston's performance at the 1974 Montreux Jazz Festival. Weston plays a very interesting solo "Tribute To Duke Ellington" that finds him quoting many of Duke's songs (Ellington had recently passed away). In addition he performs the joyous "Carnival" and a lengthy version of "Mystery Of Love" with a quintet that also includes the intense tenor-saxophonist Billy Harper, bassist William Allen, drummer Don Moye and percussionist Steve Berrios. This is an enjoyable and well-rounded set, easily recommended despite the Lp length of the program.
