iTunes Review

After Hours marked the end of a 20-year dearth of Glenn Frey studio releases (his last was 1992’s Strange Weather), but it also saw the singer/guitarist depart from his rockin’ past to tackle tunes from the Great American Songbook. Throughout, he’s graceful and laidback; he brings pathos to "The Shadow of Your Smile" and "For Sentimental Reasons,” while treating The Beach Boys’ “Caroline, No” and Randy Newman's "Same Girl” with impassioned, soulful reverence. And he sounds almost giddy on the upbeat “Route 66."

This album is the sleeper of the year

I've been an Eagles and Frey fan since the early 70's. I had to admit I was somewhat skeptical when I heard about the direction he chose to go in. Was I ever wrong - Glenn has done an obsolutely phenominal job with these classics. He has rasied himself to another level - his vocals on this recording are fantastic and the musicianship backing him is stellar. If you're a fan of the era this music was originally from and of Frey as an artist - get this album - you won't be dissapointed !!!

Is this what every "past his prime" artist has to resort to? (yes, YOU, Rod Stewart!)…only a very few bring anything new worthwhile to the classics (Boz Scaggs has some nice treatments)…if you want to do Karaoke, Glenn, do it in your local bar...

Glenn Frey was best known as one of the two most popular and longest tenured members (along with Don Henley) of the Eagles, and as an intermittently successful solo artist in the decades since that band broke up. Although associated closely with the Eagles' brand of Southern California-spawned laid-back country-rock, Frey's origins were a long way away from the place and the music that his work came to epitomize. He was born in Detroit in 1948 and grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan. Music was just one...
