Not for the weak hearted

First, on the comment about all the songs starting with the tritone, Infernus and Gaahl will say right off the bat that black metal is all about satan. This band considers themselves true Black Metal, and it is meant to sound evil and produce an evil atmosphere. I've friends who consider themselves fans of "hardcore" metal like slipknot and avenged seven fold, but pop in albums like this and they freak out. Anyway, being a fan of the band I had high expectations and the album is wellworth the money for extreme black metal fans. After listening to each song on the album multiple times, you can really hear the atmosphere and intensity of each song as Gaahl screams and shreaks his way into hell. Frost of Satyricon and 1349 once again takes to the drum kit and is the best performer on the entire album imo. It is much unlike their previous effort, "Twilight of the Idols", which was short and to the point. Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloiram isn't as forward but still gets the point across. This album is really better suited for fans of the band or extreme metal vets who have enjoyed this genre and its intensity and atmosphere.

Exceeds expectations

this was actually my first gorgoroth cd ever. its what got me into black metal in the first place. I couldnt stop listening to this cd, it blew me away. i thought to myself "this is what REAL metal sounds like". This is perhaps one of the greates BM releases ever. HAIL GORGOROTH!

Don't take his word for this unless you're looking for stuff like Slipknot and A7X4LIFE!!! This is black metal. If that's what you're looking for then this would be a good choice. Gary would say The Locust is true grindcore. He would also tell you that besides A7X and Slayer a couple other great metal bands would be Slipknot and Korn. STAY NU GARY!!!! \m/

Guitarists Infernus and Tormentor are the center of the Norwegian black metal outfit Gorgoroth, which took its name from the work of J.R.R. Tolkien. Despite numerous lineup changes, especially in the revolving-door rhythm section, Gorgoroth's basic, few-frills take on the trademark Norwegian sound remained fairly steady, and the group eventually managed to land an international deal with Nuclear Blast. The band's origins date back to 1993, the year its first demo was recorded; the original lineup...
