iTunes Review

The family tradition continues! Dylan LeBlanc's father is a veteran Muscle Shoals session guitarist and a singer/songwriter himself, so it isn't a shock that his 22-year-old offspring nails the high lonesome feel of Neil Young and Townes Van Zandt with a touch of Glasgow's Travis and Ray LaMontagne. Where LeBlanc's debut album, 2010's Pauper's Field, took a snapshot of a young man exploring the ropes of alt-country, Cast the Same Shadow expands on that vision, adding an epic sweep that's half past traditional roots music and headed somewhere into the stars. "Comfort Me" plays like a dream. A drifting sway in the rhythm takes it out to sea, where LeBlanc rides the sound into the grand majesty of the title track. At six and a half minutes, "Cast the Same Old Shadow" works at a leisurely piece, where an undertow waits patiently to pull him out to sea. "Lonesome Waltz," with scratchy lo-fi transmissions at the onset, ends things on a ghostly note.
