Editors’ Notes

In 1964, Dave Clark Five's raucous beat-driven pop was the only rival to the Beatles' nascent British Invasion. Over the course of their short career (they disbanded in 1970), they created songs that would go on to sell over one hundred million copies. Driven by Dave Clark's front-and-center drumming and Mike Smith's gravelly unhinged vocals, the group knocked out hits like "Bits and Pieces", Glad All Over" and "Because" — hitting the American top 40 over a dozen other times in a three year period. The influence of this hard-working, no-frills, beat-tastic five-piece group can be heard in anyone who espouses a love of pure, energetic rock 'n' roll. This superb collection also boasts a digital booklet which does a great job of putting the band in the context they deserve.

Why aren't these songs in TRUE STEREO? Crappy MONO!!!
I have an Import that has most of these songs in STEREO. I would like them all!
Come on Dave!

Great to be able to get these songs!

I am delighted to get the History of the Dave Clark 5 Part I and II. I used to have many of their albums on LP but gave my collection to a good friend years ago who had the space to store and enjoy it. Since then I had given up on rebuilding my DC5 collection until discovering them on iTunes. I don't mind the mono sound at all as this is how I listened to the songs for years and its no biggie for me. I am very happy to have this entire collection. A musical hole in my past has finally been filled. What is the most exciting for me is, that unlike the beatles, the DC5 were a real performance band and its really shows when listening to this collection. Thanks to Dave Clark and Apple for making these collections available at last!

Genre: Rock

For a very brief time in 1964, it seemed that the biggest challenger to the Beatles' phenomenon was the Dave Clark Five. From the Tottenham area of London, the quintet had the fortune to knock "I Want to Hold Your Hand" off the top of the British charts with "Glad All Over," and were championed (for about 15 minutes) by the British press as the Beatles' most serious threat. They were the first British Invasion band to break in a big way in the States after the Beatles, though the Rolling Stones and...
