Album Review

It's no surprise this trio is the latest brainchild of Fugees member Wyclef Jean. The young trio, which features two men and one woman, looks like an updated version of the Fugees Grammy-winning formula. Jean has had success producing groups such as Destiny's Child and Product G&B, and he hopes to continue his string of crossover success with the City High's self-titled debut album. While this album lacks the depth of the Fugees work, it stands as an impressive debut to build on. The trio of Robby Pardio, Claudette Ortiz, and Ryan Toby integrate hip-hop rhythms with butter-smooth R&B vocals as on the Clark Kent produced cut, "15 Will Get You 20." Their cover version of Donny Hathaway's "Song for You" doesn't come close to the power of the original, but still stands on its own and is an outstanding showcase for Pardio's impressive tenor voice. His stellar vocals and Toby's rhymes show just where R&B may be going in the years to come.

One of the BEST R&B alblums EVER!

I'm so mad that City High only released one cd. I remembered the first day I got this cd.....I couldnt stop listening to it. It truly defines R&B....It's not all about the sex and drugs that modern day hip hop and r&b has. City High delivers the positive messages in a way that we all enjoy listening to. Although this album is kind of nevers gets'll just love it.

City High

Hip hop with hot beats and lyrics with a Purpose. Their song What Would You Do is good example. There's an amazing truth to both sides. It brings hope to even the most tragic of situations.

I love What Would You Do? :)

I havent really listened to any other of the songs BUT i love love love what would u do? it is always stuck in my head... what would u do if ur son was at home cryin all alone on the bedroom floor cause hes hungry... u get the point. city high is a great group even if they r old. i really recommend them!

If three's a charm, than Toby Ryan and Robby Pardlo of City High must have known immediately that their group was complete when they were introduced to 18-year-old rapper and singer Claudette Ortiz. The hip-hop/R&B group was originally intended to be a two-man group, until Wyclef Jean asked Ortiz to join the group. The three young rappers (all hailing from Willingboro, NJ) have all dabbled in acting and producing in addition to their songwriting and rapping talents. The group released their first...
