iTunes Review

Funked-up Scottish soul singer Paolo Nutini took a lengthy hiatus before returning in 2014 with his third album. The break served him well, as Caustic Love paired vocal swagger with nuanced musicianship. The sultry lead single, "Scream (Funk My Life Up)," mixes Nutini's sinewy voice with slick guitar licks, while "Numpty" is a dose of low-slung funk straight outta New Orleans. It's left to the delicate, acoustic-based "Someone Like You" to end the album on a wistful note.

One of my favorite singers of all time!! He has NEVER rushed his music out just for the sake of making a buck $, he really LOVES creating music and putting HIS soul and sound into HIS music, and it shows in every amazing recording he releases! Thank You Paolo for continuing to release music you are proud of, and I as a fan will enjoy for a LIFETIME!!! Much Love xx

How Paolo Nutini Funked My Life Up

How was I to know he'd just come along and funk my life up? I heard an interview with Paolo Nutini on NPR on 9/20/14; bought Caustic Love the same day. It is brilliant! I purchased his other two studio albums as well as some live songs that night. Nine days later, I found myself driving 6 hours (blasting his music the entire time) to see him perform live. His voice is mesmerizing: soulful, funky, sexy, sweet, tender, and always passionate. I am so grateful to have seen him live in a small venue where I could really experience the power of his vocals and feel the emotion he exudes. Best concert I've E.V.E.R. seen, and I've seen some of the biggest rock concerts of the past 30 years. His band, The Vipers, is one tight and talented group of musicians; they do not disappoint. I love his vocals on These Streets; Sunny Side Up has some great tracks, but I do prefer his now-more-mature voice. It doesn't matter which of his songs I listened to last, it lifts my mood, and will be stuck in my head until I hear something different. I literally get chills from many of his songs, but One Day (Caustic Love) is my current #1. Or is it Scream (Funk My Life Up)? Maybe it's Numpty? Buy Caustic Love. You won't be disappointed. Paolo Nutini is hands down the most talented singer/songwriter I've heard in a very long time, and one of a handful I can listen to endlessly. Spread the word — Paolo is going to be as big in the U.S. as he is in the U.K. & Europe.

Not that I haven't heard the album a thousand times by now, but it's important it be released in the US. Album of the year.

Born: January 9, 1987 in Paisley, Scotland

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '00s, '10s

In much the same way that José González hails from Sweden and not Spain, Paolo Nutini is not a smooth Italian pop star, but rather a soul-influenced adult alternative songwriter from Paisley, Scotland. Raised in a music-loving family, he grew up listening to a range of folk, opera, jazz, and his father's R&B favorites. Shortly after discovering homegrown folkies like John Martyn, the teenaged Nutini left school to focus on his own musical development, eventually moving from Paisley to London at age...
