iTunes Review

If the not-too-distant future should produce a serious revival of '70s lite rock, the hip people of tomorrow may look back on 2011’s collaboration between AM and Shawn Lee as the seed of the soft revolution. The opening tune exudes acoustic-based funk (dig those deep, grooving beats) and some willowy singing that recalls the sun-flared songs of Bread. “Lonely Life” follows, with analog keyboard magic played over a marching beat; AM sings like Gerry Beckley from the band America before slipping into some sexy falsettos. Even the dub-inspired echo and repetitive rhythms of “Can’t Figure It Out” don’t diminish the song’s soft-rock vibes. “Dark into Light” has more in common with bands like Air and Stereolab, with its braiding of analog synths and modern, innovative production. But a stellar cover of Ozark Mountain Daredevils’ “Jackie Blue” keeps things sounding like bygone bellbottomed radio gold.

I have literally listed to the track "Somebody Like you" about 30 times. I can't put this down. It's magic!!! Please enjoy it folks. it's dreamy vocals and smooth electronic brilliance.

Mellow Internal Combustions

Its really rare for me to be this excited about any artist(s) of any genre. But I say, I am liking this sound! Cant Figure It Out is my anthem. Ive been listening to it nonstop. Somebody Like You is another great song. If you're into alt/elec/indi-ish then this is a great find.

Worth Every Penny!

This was definitely a great find! It's a shame it's hidden deep in the depths of iTunes, but if you're lucky enough to come across it and you're reading this review, BUY IT! A very interesting sound, and the vocals fit the songs perfectly! I can't wait for their next album, which is supposed to come out in May! Give it a listen; you won't be sorry.

AM & Shawn Lee is a collaboration between London-based multi-instrumentalist/producer Shawn Lee and Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter AM. After listening to Lee's 2004 album Music and Rhythm: Ubiquity Studio Sessions, Vol. 1, AM contacted Lee and the duo quickly discovered a shared love of various '60s and '70s sounds, including Brazilian tropicalia, psychedelic-tinged soft rock, Italian film music, and more. A long-distance songwriting partnership developed online, with the musicians sending tracks...
