Customer Reviews

Self reflective & mature soulful grooves!

Talk about a maturing of sound for this crew. The band's developed a lot over the years, especially since the release of their self-titled EP, but the thing that has maintained a staple from the start is the intricate production from a band always yearning to reach the masses with their enveloping melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and great sense of groove. How do you categorize a band like Soulajar? Far from a bar band that has a 'funk song', 'soul song', 'rock song', 'country song', etc., Soulajar finds a way to bust the genre game and tap into the eternal melodies that fill each of our minds throughout the day. Like a classic piece of literature, or a groundbreaking film, each song is its own masterpiece on this album...even the covers, "Spirit In The Sky" & "Use Me" have a fresh take that truly bring out all of the songs flavors & emotions.

"Change (featuring Steve Kimock)" is a great example at a back-to-basics examination of the state we're in as a person, as a people, as a nation, as a world.

Pop this CD/digital download/vinyl on in any situation, any gathering, and you're guaranteed to go away with some new perspective, and a new set of fans. Perhaps the genre-breaking (or can we call it post-genre?) aspect would scare away the labels, and perhaps this could have only been produced independently, but the industry & world that this album was made possible is one I will continue to support.

The new Incubus... And then some:)

Amazing - love them live - seen them at the Bakersfield Jazz Festival and was blown away at their energy and passion. Love this album so much I have bought it twice cause my laptop crashed!

Saw them in Bakersfield at Jazz Festival

I recently attended the jazz festival in Bakersfield and saw this band. They sounded really good live and had plenty of energy. I bought the CD at the festival and have enjoyed since then. This sound is relaxing, soulful, rhythm and has a good tone. I wish they would have played at night. There are plenty of talented and educated along with gifted people in this band. Good luck to them all. They have a bright future!
