With a style that recalls the indie-folk isolation of early Bon Iver, Dustin Tebbutt’s tender, breathy falsetto and gently strummed acoustic guitar create a sound that’s icy and somber, yet warm enough to crawl inside. He explores the intricacies of human relationships (“Love Is Blind,” “Satellite”) and the way small decisions can have big impacts on our lives (“Chasing Gold”). Chasing Gold is more stripped back than 2016’s First Light: Tebbutt shares cowriter credits with Dutch-Israeli singer-songwriter Dotan on two of these seven songs (“Satellite,” the title track), while offering acoustic reimaginings of his 2018 collaboration with Flight Facilities (“All Your Love”) and RÜFÜS DU SOL’s “Innerbloom,” a haunting duet with Australian singer Lisa Mitchell.
